Support Guide: Enphase Enlighten App

Table of Contents

Installation & User Registration

The purpose of this quick start guide is to inform system owners about how to download and use the Enphase App on your smartphone or computer browser. Addresses both basic and advanced features of the application and provides tips on how to use it effectively.

Introduction to the Enphase App

After the installation and commissioning of the system, the energy production of the microinverters will begin to be monitored. If an IQ Gateway Metered is installed, the system will also monitor consumption and production, and provide real-time values.

Once the installer grants access to the system, an email will be sent to the email address of the system owner with a link to log in on Enphase Installer Platform. The system owner should also review the spam because some email providers classify this message as spam. Figure 1 shows an example of a welcome email.

Once the password has been created, the Enphase Installer Platform can be accessed using the email address as the username.

The system owner can then access the platform via a web browser, through the Enphase Installer Platform page (https://enlighten.enphaseenergy.com) shown in Figure 2, or via the Enphase App. It can be downloaded from Google Play on Android or from the App Store on iPhone.

How to use & what each thing means

Home Screen

When you open the Enphase Enlighten app, you’ll see an overview chart representing your home’s photovoltaic system, including solar panels, microinverters, the Envoy, and, if installed, devices like a battery or electric vehicle charger. This overview allows you to quickly assess system performance and detect any anomalies.

  • Current Energy Production: At the center of the screen, there is a main indicator displaying the current photovoltaic production in kW. Keep in mind that the data might have a slight delay compared to real-time production. For real-time information, you can activate “Live Data” in the app, which updates every 5 seconds.
  • Energy Flow:Animated arrows illustrate the movement of energy between solar panels, the battery, connected devices, and the power grid. This helps you see whether you’re directly using generated energy, storing it in the battery, or exporting it to the grid.
  • Battery Status: If your system includes a battery, an indicator shows its charge level as a percentage, along with the energy flow direction. Clicking on the indicator provides details like energy charged, discharged, remaining capacity, and the current operating mode.

Statistics Screen

From this screen, you can view your photovoltaic system’s performance over different time periods. Access it by clicking the main production indicator on the home screen or the “Statistics” section.

  • Production and Consumption: This section provides a summary of the energy generated, consumed, and exported by the system in daily, monthly, annual, and since-installation formats. It allows you to analyze production patterns and optimize energy usage.
  • Environmental Benefits: Displays information about your photovoltaic system’s positive impact on the environment, such as the amount of CO₂ avoided, the equivalent in trees planted, and coal savings.

Devices Screen

In this section, you can check the status of all system components, such as microinverters and the Envoy, and ensure they are functioning properly.

  • Operational Status: Each component has an indicator showing whether it’s operating optimally. In case of issues, the app provides problem details and possible solutions.

Settings Screen

The settings screen in the Enphase Enlighten app lets you customize and manage system functions to suit your needs. Each section includes essential tools to optimize system performance and resolve potential issues.

  • General Settings: In this section, you can adjust basic parameters, such as:

    • Units of Measurement: Switch between kW and kWh to display generated and consumed energy.

    • Notifications: Enable or disable alerts about your system’s status, such as when a component isn’t working properly or there’s an unexpected drop in energy production.

    • Display Preferences: Customize how graphs and data are shown in the app by choosing between light or dark themes or activating simplified views for easier reading.
  • User Management: Manage account access and related data here:

    • Access Permissions: If you share the photovoltaic system with others, such as family members or housemates, you can grant them access to the app so they can also monitor system data or receive notifications.

    • Data Updates: Update your email, password, or other account information to keep it current and secure.

    • Security: Set up options like two-factor authentication to protect access to your system.
  • System Management: This section allows you to manage configurations directly related to installed devices:

    • Panel Assignment: Link specific solar panels to their respective microinverters, ideal for reconfiguring the system or making technical adjustments.

    • Operating Mode: Switch between energy modes, such as prioritizing battery storage or maximizing direct solar energy usage.

    • Updates: Check for available firmware updates for system components, which can improve performance or fix bugs.
  • Technical Support: Access help tools and communication options from this section:

    • Official Documentation: Find detailed guides and solutions to common issues directly from the Enphase database.

    • Support Center: Contact the technical support team via email, chat, or phone, with the option to automatically send system reports to speed up issue resolution.

    • Problem Simulator: An interactive tool that helps identify potential system issues and suggests steps to resolve them.

Common Error Messages and How to solve them

One of the main reasons to frequently monitor the Enphase Enlighten app is to quickly detect any issues that could limit the performance of your photovoltaic system. Below are some of the most common error messages, along with their causes and solutions:

The system stopped sending data

This message indicates that the system has stopped communicating with the Enphase server, preventing updated data from appearing in the app.

Possible causes:

  • Interruption in the Envoy’s internet connection.
  • Local network issues.
  • Malfunction of the Envoy device.

Solution:

  • Ensure the Envoy is connected to the internet and the indicator lights show the correct status.
  • Restart the router and the Envoy to reestablish the connection.
  • If the issue persists, contact Enphase technical support for further assistance.

Microinverter(s) not reporting

This message indicates that one or more microinverters are not communicating with the Envoy, which could affect the monitoring of the system’s performance.

Possible causes:

  • Interference in power line communication.
  • Issues with the electrical installation.
  • Malfunctions in the microinverters.

Solution:

  • Ensure the Envoy is directly connected to a power outlet and not through a surge protector, extension cord, or power strip.
  • Verify that no devices are causing interference in the power line communication.
  • If the problem persists, contact a specialized technician for a full system review.

Production issue

This status indicates that the system’s production is below the installer’s estimate or that Enphase has detected a potential hardware problem.

Possible causes:

  • Adverse weather conditions.
  • Shade on the solar panels.
  • Malfunctions in the system components.

Solution:

  • Check recent weather conditions to determine if they are the cause of the low production.
  • Ensure the solar panels are free from shadows or obstructions.
  • If the issue persists, contact Enphase technical support for a more detailed evaluation.

Meter issue

This message indicates that the app has detected a potential issue with the system’s meter.

Possible causes:

  • Faulty installation of the meter.
  • Communication problems between the meter and the Envoy.

Solution:

  • Verify the proper installation and connection of the meter.
  • Ensure no interference is affecting communication between the meter and the Envoy.
  • If the problem persists, consult a professional for a detailed review.

Unknown grid status

This message appears when the system cannot determine the electrical grid’s status.

Possible causes:

  • Power supply interruptions.
  • Issues with the system configuration.

Solution:

  • Check for power outages in your area.
  • Review the system configuration to ensure it is correctly set up.
  • If the issue persists, contact Enphase technical support for assistance.

Regularly monitoring the Enphase Enlighten app allows you to quickly identify and resolve these and other potential issues, ensuring your photovoltaic system operates at peak performance.

App Functionality Issues and How to solve them

Why is my Enphase app not updating?

Typically, Enphase cloud updates system performance data every 15 minutes. If your Enphase cloud page does not appear to be updating, verify that the Envoy is online and displaying +Web (for LCD Envoys) or that the top LED is solid green (for Envoy-S or IQ Gateway).
